Buccaneers' Leonard Fournette following weight report: 'See y'all September 11'

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Leonard Fournette apparently heard about the latest report concerning his physical condition and fitness ahead of training camp sessions.

A story surfaced on Monday claiming that Buccaneers coaches "were not happy" that Fournette did not attend voluntary organized team activities this spring and then showed up for mandatory minicamp allegedly "weighing damn near 260 (pounds)." As Michael David Smith noted for Pro Football Talk, the 27-year-old is officially listed at 228 pounds.

Fournette took to Twitter on Tuesday to offer a clear message to those who would question his dedication to the cause this summer:

The Buccaneers will open the upcoming regular season at the Dallas Cowboys on, you guessed it, Sept. 11 for a "Sunday Night Football" showdown.

Fournette was part of the Buccaneers team that defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV and is expected to again be a key contributor for the club's offense during what may be the final campaign that legendary quarterback Tom Brady spends as an active player. The ball-carrier finished the 2021 regular season with 812 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 180 attempts to go along with 69 receptions for 454 yards and two additional scores.

Fournette put pen to paper on a three-year, $21 million contract with the Buccaneers in March.
