Buccaneers Mike Evans, 'I’m A Buc for Life. No Matter What'

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans is a legend in the Bay Area, and his retirement plans are still uncertain as he approaches his 12th season in the NFL. Recently, Evans spoke with Kay Adams on the Up & Adams show, maintaining his ambiguity about a specific retirement timeline.

“Right now, I’m just focused on this season. This is the last year of my deal. I’m obviously an older player, but I feel great,” stated Evans. “Retirement at the end of the season isn’t off the table, and playing for, you know, 2-5 years is not off the table either… I know I’m not playing 5 more years, but right now, if you ask me today, it’s easy for me to say I can play another 2, 3 years. But, it’s a lot that goes into the season.”

Evans appears to be in no rush to announce his retirement plans as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer. With his contract set to expire after this season, Evans might opt for one-year deals moving forward if he chooses to continue playing. This approach would give him the flexibility to retire on his own terms, allowing him to reassess his plans annually.

Evans was characteristically guarded in his response, but one thing was crystal clear: when he eventually decides to retire, his allegiance to the Buccaneers will remain unwavering, as he declared, “I’m a Buc for life.”

As Mike Evans kicks off the 2025 season at 32, he’s continuing to defy age expectations with strong performances on the field. Last season, Evans made history by tying Jerry Rice’s record for most consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons with 11. Now, he’s poised to break that record if he can reach 1,000 yards again this year.

Since being drafted seventh overall by the Buccaneers in 2014, Evans has consistently delivered elite production. If he does surpass Rice’s record with 12 consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, he’ll solidify his case as one of the NFL’s all-time greats and further strengthen his Hall of Fame candidacy.
