Buccaneers' Mike Evans: Tom Brady has 'a sour taste in his mouth'

Last week, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady offered some insight about why he ended his retirement in March when he explained that he wanted the Buccaneers to know his plans before the start of free agency later that same month.

Other Tampa Bay players are now providing additional looks behind the figurative curtain.

Buccaneers running back Leonard Fournette said on Tuesday that he told Brady shortly after the team's playoff loss to the Los Angeles Rams that "we can’t go out like that" and that the seven-time Super Bowl champion agreed. Star wide receiver Mike Evans, who initially thought he caught Brady's final ever touchdown pass, revealed on Wednesday he assumed Brady would stay retired until he learned otherwise.

"I had no reason to believe that he would come back," Evans admitted about Brady while speaking with reporters on Wednesday, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. "He’s done everything, made a lot of money, best career ever. And he still wants to play. He just loves this game, he loves his teammates and he wants to win. He said there’s a sour taste in his mouth. There’s one in mine as well. Happy we got him back for at least one more year."

Buccaneers linebacker Devin White remarked last month "it's Super Bowl or nothing" with Brady back at work. Unsurprisingly, the 44-year-old seems to share that mindset.

"A guy that doesn’t have to do it, he just loves it so much, he just wants to win, and he demands that, it’s added motivation," Evans said about Brady during his comments.
