Buccaneers need to consider a trade to help in 2023
USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have one of the worst rushing attacks to ever disgrace the NFL.

The Bucs couldn't get a yard for a conversion if they needed it more often than not, and a drive that is heavily based around the rush for the Bucs isn't going to be a successful one.

Given the lack of any production in that area mixed with a very dry free agent market, the Bucs could try to improve their rushing attack by a marginal amount with a trade. Rashaad Penny seems to make a lot of sense.

Rashaad Penny currently plays next to no role for the Eagles, has a history with Dave Canales, and has been looking for a bigger opportunity for a while now.

As nice as it may be to play a small role on the Eagles, compete for a Super Bowl, and get paid, Penny is sure to want to prove just how great he can be when healthy, and that chance won't come in Philly.

With a career yards-per-rush rate of 5.7, Penny looks like he could solve some of the inefficiency problems in Tampa on day one based on what we have seen during his healthy years in Seattle.

To make matters better for this trade, the Eagles not using Penny could mean that Tampa could make a trade for next to nothing, meaning they could get an immediate improvement over more than half of their running back room for a safe investment.

It may not be a perfect, but the Bucs need to get busy if they want to fix something that appears to be very broken. A change is needed on the roster, and it seems like a trade for a guy like Penny could be the best intersection between attainability and quality.
