Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ quarterback Baker Mayfield has been on a torrid run recently over the Buccaneers’ four-game win streak - including the first ever perfect passer rating put up by a visiting quarterback at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers.
Over this win streak, the Buccaneers’ offense if averaging 30 points per game and for Mayfield, he has thrown 9 touchdowns to just a single interception.
On the season, Baker has slowly crept his way into being a top-ten QB in the league and has completed 64.3% of his passes for 3,598 yards, 26 touchdowns and just 8 interceptions.
With Baker resurrecting his career in Tampa Bay this season, after a tumultuous last five years or so, the media and those who pay attention to the NFL are finally starting to notice his hard work pay off as the regular season starts to wind down and we enter the playoffs.
Now that Mayfield is getting recognized for his performance this season, he has seen his odds rise for the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year award that recognizes a player who has overcome adversity in some sort of fashion to return to remarkable performance.
According to FanDuel, Baker now has the third-best odds to win the award at +850 - slotting in behind Buffalo Bills’ safety Damar Hamlin and Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco; neither of which have played as much as Mayfield has over the span of this season.
If Mayfield can continue his amazing play to finish of the season and make a run in the playoffs we should only continue to see his odds rise - even making a case that he should be the player that receives the award.
