Buccaneers Release Quarterback Jake Browning

According to Ian Rapoport, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are releasing quarterback Jake Browning.

The move is another indication of the team’s confidence in undrafted rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels. Tampa Bay recently named Daniels its primary backup after he overtook Browning for the role.

Buccaneers Move On From Browning

Both quarterbacks were added by the Buccaneers this offseason. However, Daniels ultimately won the competition for the backup position.

Tampa Bay gave Browning $400,000 guaranteed on his one-year contract this offseason. The Buccaneers have now decided to move on from the veteran quarterback.

Browning’s NFL Journey

Browning, 30, originally signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He came out of Washington before being waived after the preseason.

The Vikings then re-signed Browning to their practice squad. He later signed a futures deal with Minnesota for the 2020 season.

Browning was waived again following training camp. He spent the 2020 season on Minnesota’s practice squad before signing another futures deal for 2021.

Browning’s 2025 Season

Browning appeared in five games for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2025. He made three starts while completing 64.8 percent of his passes.

He finished the season with 771 passing yards, six touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
