Buccaneers Reveal Baker Mayfield 'Long-Time' Contract Goal

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield has enjoyed a superb career resurgence since arriving in the NFC South, and as we look toward the 2025 season, expectations are huge.

Not only are the Buccaneers expected to make the playoffs, but they are expected to go on a deep postseason run as well, and a big reason for that is Mayfield at quarterback.

Coming off a career-best season (4,500 passing yards, 41 touchdowns), Mayfield will enter his third year as a top quarterback in football. And according to general manager Jason Licht, soon Baker might be paid like one, too.

“I love Baker. I love everything he’s done for us,” Licht said via The Athletic. “The goal for us is for Baker to continue to be the player that he is, and at some point, we reach an extension when the time is right and he continues to be our quarterback for a long time. That’s the goal.”

Mayfield's three-year, $100 million deal still has two years left on it, but it is clear Licht has the intention of keeping Baker around for longer than that.

What he has been able to do with the Buccaneers has been superb, and 2025 looms as a pivotal year for Mayfield to see if he can take this team, which boasts an impressive offense, at least on paper, into the Super Bowl conversation.

If he can, his price in the next contract negotiations will go up significantly.
