The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be without two key starters when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Baker Mayfield and Antoine Winfield Jr. have both been ruled out, according to FOX Sports reporter Greg Auman.
“Todd Bowles says Baker Mayfield and Antoine Winfield are ruled out for Sunday. Everyone else is in play — RB Sean Tucker, for instance, is a pregame decision.”
Mayfield’s absence means Tampa Bay must continue without its starting quarterback. A reported throwing session offered hope of progress, but he apparently isn’t ready to return from his thumb injury.
Jalon Daniels is preparing to lead the offense against Pittsburgh. The rookie will face another important test as the Buccaneers look to build on their recent victory over Dallas.
Winfield’s continued absence is another significant setback for Tampa Bay’s defense. The safety will miss his second consecutive game as he continues recovering from a rib injury.
The Buccaneers did receive encouraging news regarding several other injured players. Benjamin Morrison, SirVocea Dennis, Sean Tucker, and Ayden Garnes returned to practice Friday.
Their availability for Sunday’s matchup remains to be determined. Tucker, in particular, is considered a pregame decision, leaving Tampa Bay waiting for final clarity on his status.
