The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have selected Oregon Wide Receiver Tez Johnson with the 235th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Johnson excels in timing-based passing attacks, particularly from the slot, where his expertise in quick-game concepts and option routes shines. Film shows he consistently uses his quickness and spatial awareness to exploit zone coverage, often getting open early in his routes. Rather than relying on athleticism, Johnson wins with precise footwork and clever manipulation of defensive leverage.

From Birmingham’s tough streets to the NFL’s bright lights, Johnson’s journey is a testament to grit. After losing his dad young, his life took a dramatic turn when former Auburn QB Patrick Nix’s family adopted him. Patrick Nix is the father of former Oregon and current Broncos quarterback Bo Nix. This new chapter proved pivotal, especially when he followed Bo to Oregon after shining at Troy. At Troy, Johnson was a force to be reckoned with, racking up consecutive seasons as the team’s top receiver and earning third-team All-Sun Belt honors. He then made a seamless transition to Power 5 competition at Oregon, defying expectations with 86 catches for 1,182 yards in 2023. Johnson wrapped up his college career in style, earning second-team All-Big Ten honors in 2024. He dominated as a receiver, leading the Ducks in catches (83), yards (898), and touchdowns (10). He also brought the heat as a punt returner, including one electrifying TD return.
