Buccaneers' Tom Brady refutes report he changes game plans without input from coaches

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady has attempted to pour cold water over a claim that he makes changes to game plans without informing coaches before contests.

"No. I have no idea," Brady answered a question about the subject, per the Buccaneers' website. "Anybody can write anything and say whatever they want, so no. I'm not going to respond to every [report]. Next question."

For a piece published this past Sunday, NFL insider Michael Silver wrote for the San Francisco Chronicle that "Brady runs a separate meeting with the Bucs' skill players" the night before every game, during which the signal-caller allegedly "makes tweaks to assignments and formations and provides a revised blueprint" for his teammates. Silver noted Brady does this without head coach Todd Bowles, offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, or anyone else on the staff knowing the exact nature of the quarterback's changes until the game starts.

Coming off the embarrassing Week 14 35-7 loss at the San Francisco 49ers that dropped the Buccaneers to 6-7, Bowles also refuted Silver's report.

"No, we know what's going on in the meeting and we know all the tweaks," Bowles said at that time. "The defensive guys meet by themselves as well. We have several position groups that meet by themselves as well to get on the same page together before a game. That's nothing …That's not new."

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio isn't buying what at least Brady was selling on Thursday because the seven-time Super Bowl champion spoke directly with Silver.

"Why would Silver think that’s what Brady does if Brady didn’t tell him? Maybe Brady thought it was off the record. Maybe Brady misspoke. Maybe Silver misunderstood," Florio said.

Brady, Bowles, and everyone else associated with the Buccaneers need to be on the same page as soon as possible. First-place Tampa Bay still controls its playoff fate heading into this Sunday's home game against the 9-4 Cincinnati Bengals.
