Buccaneers' Tom Brady trolled for comparing NFL season to military deployment

People have had some online fun over the fact that Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady recently landed in hot water for comparing the NFL season to a military deployment.

Richard Pollina of the New York Post reported Tuesday morning how a military Instagram page named "NotInRegz" (short for "not in regulation") posted about Brady's original comments last week in part to get a rise out of followers.

"I honestly thought him saying it was funny," an administrator for that account who wished to remain anonymous told Pollina. "I knew some military vets would get mad about it, so I posted it on our page."

That administrator explained that active duty members and veterans have flooded Brady's social media inboxes with trolling direct messages following the Oct. 17 edition of his "Let's Go!" SiriusXM program and podcast that featured his controversial statement.

"I received a picture from one of my followers that had messaged Tom Brady on Instagram saying, 'We have field day at 1600 your room better be clean.' I thought it was really funny, so I posted it to my story," the administrator said. "NotInRegz" has since received over 200 screenshots of similar messages sent to the future Hall of Famer.

"I almost look at like a football season like you’re going away on deployment in the military, and it’s like, 'Man, here I go again,'" Brady said at the time. While the seven-time Super Bowl champion later apologized for what he called "a very poor choice of words," a 21-year-old active duty Marine named Drayven Howlett told The Post he believed people overreacted to the matter.

"I think anyone actually upset about this needs to stop being soft," added Marine corps veteran and New York Giants fan Ed Leitner. "He was just talking out of his a--. Obviously, he supports the military and means nothing by it."

Brady will look to avoid further off-the-field headaches and distractions ahead of Thursday's game between the 3-4 Buccaneers and 4-3 Baltimore Ravens.
