Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Jalen McMillan suffered a knee injury during the first quarter in a loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

The injury is particularly concerning because it involves the same knee McMillan injured during training camp. That previous injury forced him to miss multiple weeks and Tampa Bay’s season opener.

McMillan returned to game action last week in a limited role. He was expected to have a larger role against Minnesota.

McMillan Injured In First Quarter

According to ESPN’s Jenna Laine, McMillan suffered the injury while attempting to make a catch against Minnesota.

“McMillan suffered the injury colliding with Vikings safety Josh Metellus while attempting to catch a pass on a corner route. It is unclear whether McMillan suffered the injury while pivoting his body or upon contact. He was able to limp off the field under his own power.”

McMillan was able to leave the field under his own power following the play. However, the fact that it involves the same knee remains a significant concern.

MRI Will Determine Severity

McMillan will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury. The results should provide more clarity regarding his availability moving forward.

Via ESPN’s Jenna Laine,

“Bucs wide receiver Jalen McMillan will undergo an MRI on his left knee tomorrow to determine the extent of his injury, seeing if it’s a reaggravation of what he was dealing with in camp or if it’s a new injury.”

The timing is especially difficult for Tampa Bay. McMillan was expected to take on a larger role as the Buccaneers attempted to recover from their 0-3 start.

Instead, Tampa Bay must now wait for another injury update involving one of its young receivers.
