Bucs Hire Todd Bowles Game Management Help

Todd Bowles has been criticized in recent years for his seemingly poor in-game clock management, time outs and end-of-game situations.

As the Bucs continue to add to the roster through free agency and prepare for next month's NFL Draft, general manager Jason Licht has reportedly hired Bowles some help.

Greg Auman reported that the Bucs have hired Zach Beistline as their new director of football research.

"Bucs have hired Zach Beistline as their new director of football research," Auman posted on X. "Beistline spent the last 12 years with the Jaguars, working as an analyst and most recently as director of game management."

Beistline has been with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the past 12 seasons with his "highest title being director of game management," per PewterReport, although we're not sure how anyone can categorize those titles.

Curiously, after 12 years, Beistline wasn't retained after former Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen was hired as the Jags' new head coach earlier this offseason.

Bowles has long been criticized for his unwillingness to use timeouts early in the first half of a game, rather, saving them for crucial end-of-the-second-half situations that mostly never happen.

For all the good things Bowles has done in Tampa Bay as the head coach, in-game and clock management have been some of his biggest weaknesses, and hopefully, with the arrival of Beistline, those things won't be talking points this upcoming year.
