At this point, it's just a matter of "when" and not "if" the Tampa Bay Buccaneers re-sign Chris Godwin.
The vast majority of signs were pointing in that direction after FOX Sports' Greg Auman reported Tuesday that the two parties agreed to push back Godwin's contract void date of February 17 to March 12, which is the first day of the new league year. The move kept $18.852 million of dead cap from officially hitting the Bucs' books, which simultaneously kept the negotiating window open, as well.
That all but guaranteed Godwin's future with the Bucs, but things are looking even better after Wednesday's salary cap update: Per ESPN's Dan Graziano, the NFL informed teams that the 2025 salary cap ceiling will be between $277.5-$281.5, which is a minimum of $2.5 million more than the projected number of $275 million that was previously reported.
Before the news came out, the Bucs had roughly $2.24 million in available cap space under a projected cap of $272.5 million per Over The Cap. They already stood to gain about $2.5 million in cap space because of the aforementioned projected total of $275 million, but now, the Bucs will gain anywhere from an extra $5-$9.5 million in cap space.
The NFL today informed teams that the 2025 per-team salary cap will fall in the range of $277.5 million to $281.5 million, way up from last year's $255.4 million. Cap will have increased by more than $53 million over the last two years.

That comes out to around $7.24-$11.69 million in cap space before accounting for the projected cost of the Bucs' draft class. When in taking account of that projection, the Bucs' cap space comes out to around $4.1-$8.55 million in cap space.
Every penny counts when it comes to managing an NFL roster and Jason Licht and Co. just received a ton of extra change that can easily go a long way toward keeping Godwin - and others - in Tampa Bay for 2025 and maybe even beyond.
