There is no denying that in the NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers zigged when everyone thought they would zag.
Thought to take a defensive player like linebacker Jihaad Campbell or pass rusher Mike Green, the Buccaneers flipped the script and selected Ohio State receiver Emeka Egbuka.
Why is that odd? Because the Buccaneers already had Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Jalen McMillan as the big three. Now they have four.
Plus, Oregon receiver Tez Johnson was drafted in the seventh round to give Baker Mayfield a ridiculous number of weapons.
And for Pro Football Focus, it might just be the best receiving group in football.
"Coming off a strong free agency period in which they re-signed Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay has quietly assembled what may be the deepest receiving corps in the NFL," Pro Football Focus writes. "Egbuka and Godwin now join Mike Evans, Jalen McMillan, Trey Palmer, Sterling Shepard and seventh-round pick Tez Johnson in a stacked, versatile group of pass-catchers.
"With this arsenal at his disposal, Baker Mayfield enters 2025 with more weapons than ever, and the Bucs’ offense could be one of the most dangerous in the league if everything clicks."
That is a lot of mouths to feed with only one football, and some think that with Egbuka's selection, maybe McMillan could be the one pushed out.
But in truth, you can never have enough weapons and Mayfield will lead the offense for a third straight year with a different coordinator with Josh Grizzard taking over from Liam Coen.
The Buccaneers are again favorites for the NFC South and to go on a deep playoff run, and this might be because Mayfield has one of the best receiver groups in football.
Tampa Bay is quickly becoming a team to watch in 2025, and it is due to the abundance of talent that Mayfield has to work with.
If everyone plays to their ability, the Buccaneers' offense will be one of the best in football—and the most dangerous, too.
