The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to be without Mike Evans for multiple weeks, meaning they’ll need their younger players to step up against a talented opponent.
Mike Evans exited the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ matchup against the New York Jets over the weekend, with what has now been diagnosed as a hamstring injury. He’s expected to miss multiple weeks, and Chris Godwin has not yet returned from injury.
Mike Evans could now miss several weeks with a hamstring injury, similar to the time he missed last season. Evans missed 34 days last year with a hamstring issue, costing him four games in the middle of the season.
While the veteran is hoping to return to the lineup quicker this year, the Bucs have a budding star who is certainly capable of filling the role.
Some were surprised when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers opted to draft a wide receiver in the first round earlier this year. While there were other areas of the roster they could have looked to improve, the aging wide receiver room was also a factor for a team that loves to throw the football.
So far this season, Bucs’ rookie Emeka Egbuka is looking like the best receiver in the class.

He caught four passes for 67 yards and two touchdowns in his NFL debut, helping the Buccaneers to secure a win over the Atlanta Falcons. The rookie then added his third touchdown of the season the following week against the Houston Texans, marking a hot start to his NFL career.
In Week 3, Egbuka recorded six catches for 85 yards and had a stunning one-handed catch down the sideline in the game.

Todd Bowles was asked about his thoughts on Egbuka for the Offensive Rookie of the Year, to which he replied:
“Right now, we don’t even consider him a rookie.”
Egbuka has become the favorite for the prestigious award and will now be under the spotlight in Week 4 with a tough matchup against the 3-0 Philadelphia Eagles.
His success so far has been impressive, but he’s yet to feature without Mike Evans being on the field. In the veteran’s absence, Egbuka will be the primary focus, and he’s facing a defense that currently ranks 11th in passing yards allowed and 10th in yards per pass.
Mike Evans said that this year’s WR room was the best he’d been around before the season began, and Egbuka was a significant reason why. The rookie has gone about his entire process in the right way and is seeing results on the field.
If he performs as the standalone WR1 against the Eagles this weekend, his case for Offensive Rookie of the Year will grow significantly louder.
In the final game of the 2024 regular season, Mike Evans caught a pass to tie Jerry Rice’s record for the most consecutive 1,000 yard seasons in NFL history.
This year, Evans has a chance to claim that title as his own if he can record 1,000 yards for the 12th year in a row. He missed time in 2024 and was still able to reach that individual milestone, but the record could be at risk if he’s out for any more than a few weeks in 2025.
Evans has 140 yards and a touchdown so far this season, and has never had a single season in the NFL without reaching 1,000 yards.
