The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had some notable performances from their rookies in training camp through two weeks. Notable among them are the Bucs' second and third round draft picks - cornerbacks Benjamin Morrison from Notre Dame and Jacob Parrish from Kansas State, respectively.
Morrison has worked with the first team and has drawn the praise of head coach Todd Bowles about how he didn't shy from the opportunity.
Unfortunately, it appears his progress will hit at least a temporary snag for a short while. According to Bowles, he's dealing with a hamstring issue, as he was on the sideline on Wednesday.
"He tweaked his hamstring," Bowles responded to a question regarding his absence.
Morrison is someone who has shown why many considered him to be a possible first round talent that the Bucs got at a discount back in April in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Bucs selected him with the 53rd overall pick in the second round, the first of two cornerback selections on the second day of the draft along with Parrish at 84 overall.
Morrison appeared in only six games last year during Notre Dame's run to the national championship game due to hip surgery. However, in 2022-23, he played at a very high level, notching 9 interceptions during that time frame. Bowles has talked about the need for his defensive backs to come away with more interceptions this year, so Morrison's skillset could be a terrific situation for him.
The former Irish standout has started camp strong, as he more than held his own thus far, getting his head coach to say he did "not flinch" when given the opportunity.
However, it sounds like his first action under the lights in a game setting perhaps won't be this Saturday, when the Bucs open up their preseason against the Tennessee Titans at Raymond James Stadium.
