Bucs vs. Jets: Most Impressive In Week 3
Kim Klement Neitzel-Imagn Images

The Bucs improved their record to 3-0 with a dramatic 29-27 home win over the Jets. Tampa Bay was able to pull away in the second quarter with a pick-six by cornerback Jamel Dean, but the Jets came storming back to take the lead with under two minutes to go. It took another late game drive by quarterback Baker Mayfield and company to see the Bucs come out on top.

Here's what was most impressive from the home opening win.

CB Jamel Dean

Don't make a scene! Jamel Dean recorded Tampa Bay's first interception of the season and took it to the house for a pick-six late in the second quarter to extend the Bucs' lead to 20-6. The Bucs have had their issues getting their hands on the football, but it was no problem for Dean jumping on the route and reaching the end zone for the defensive score. Really all of the corners had a big day, and it was a big spark to end the half.

QB Baker Mayfield

His stats weren't eye popping by any means, but Baker Mayfield was precise and commanding with the offense. He made all the right throws, even tossing a touchdown to Mike Evans. While Mayfield did have a fumble that was recovered by Graham Barton, he never put the ball in harm's way when throwing the ball. Working behind a makeshift offensive line, he didn't have too much time in the pocket.

And as we've come to learn with Mayfield, he can get the job done running the football as well. He had a great scramble on third down throwing in a pump fake where he was behind the line of scrimmage, but it still fooled the defender, and he got the first down. His 33-yard sideline run at the end of the game sealed the deal, too. Mayfield was typical Mayfield in the win.

S Antoine Winfield Jr.

Antoine Winfield Jr. was responsible for forcing the Bucs' first turnover of the season. Winfield blitzed off of the right side and knocked the ball out of the hands of quarterback Tyrod Taylor, creating a strip sack that was picked up by Vita Vea. Winfield was flying around and made an important impact play.

WR Emeka Egbuka

Coming into the game banged up, Egbuka made a sensational one-handed catch down the field with Jets corner Sauce Gardner in coverage. It created a spark for the offense, who had not yet scored a touchdown and were facing a second and long. Tampa Bay went to Egbuka on the very next play for an eight-yard gain as the Bucs got in rhythm. Egbuka was also huge for the offense in the second half making two catches on third down that extended their drives. His big catch at the end of the game set the Bucs up for the game winning field goal.

OLB Haason Reddick

It's the start of the revenge tour for Haason Reddick and he came up big with a tackle on fourth-and-1. The Jets attempted to go for it right before midfield, running it with big backup running back Braelon Allen but Reddick was right there to make the stop and get the ball back to Tampa Bay.

CB Jacob Parrish

What a home opener it was for Jacob Parrish. He had a good day in coverage against Jets receivers and also recorded his first career NFL sack blitzing off the right side and taking down Taylor on the play. Parrish looks so comfortable in the nickel position and consistently makes plays for the defense.

WR Sterling Shepard

Sterling Shepard has become Mr. 3rd down for Tampa Bay. Baker Mayfield found him early on a third down to keep Tampa Bay's drive going. They then went back to Shepard on a screen play that got the Bucs inside the goal line, leading to a Mike Evans touchdown and the Bucs' first time reaching the end zone on the season. Shepard's catches on the final drive helped set up the Bucs for the win.

K Chase McLaughlin

All eyes were on Chase McLaughlin after a shaky start to his season, but he prevailed several times in this game, including a 54-yarder for the first points of the game. Then McLaughlin proved he can still make kicks when they count, nailing the game winner as time expired to finish five of six on his field goal attempts and making all of his extra points.

Bucs Run Defense

It was the Bucs' first game without Calijah Kancey going against a Jets team that certainly wanted to run the ball. New York has a great running back with Breece Hall and the Bucs stifled him in the ground game all day long. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor was able to run around for a bit, but when it came to designed runs by Hall and Braelon Allen, they got the job done. The Bucs only allowed 51 rushing yards to the Jets' two back system.
