Buffalo Bills Free Agent WRs: Gabe Davis & Trent Sherfield

Last time, we reviewed the Buffalo Bills RB room, now we dive into the WRs. Currently, Gabe Davis and Trent Sherfield are Buffalo’s only pending free agents at the position. Over the past four seasons, Gabe has played a big role in the Bills offense. Becoming a full-time starter in Year 2, Gabe proved to be a true deep threat for Josh Allen… when he could hold onto the ball. Trent Sherfield on the other hand, couldn’t get on the field in a thin WR room. Buffalo signed Sherfield hoping he would replicate the hot season he had with the Miami Dolphins in 2022. Now, the Bills go into this off-season with a glaring need at WR2 and lacking depth options.

Gabe Davis

Davis has been very hot and cold during his tenure with the Bills. His first true flashes came during the 2020 playoffs against the Indianapolis Colts, when he made two big-time catches late in the game to help the Bills advance. After that, we saw big games from him against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs that made fans believe we had a good WR2 already in the building. However, it seemed like he and Josh Allen just didn’t connect this past season.

From countless drops, wrong routes ran, and not even being targeted, it looks like Davis’ Buffalo tenure will end this March. GM Brandon Beane likes to let some of his guys test the market and see what they’re worth. According to Spotrac, Davis’ projected contract could be four years/$54M, or $13.6M annually.

Trent Sherfield

Sherfield signed a one-year deal last off-season after totaling 417 yards and two TDs with Miami. Going into the 2023 season, Sherfield brought up the idea of him playing both slot and boundary.

“I think that’s the reason why they brought me here… I think it’s something I can be able to provide, depth. I’ve done that everywhere I’ve been.”

However, he only saw 23 targets all season and served mostly as a blocking receiver. Sherfield likely won’t command more than the $1.7M deal he received last year, whether in Buffalo or elsewhere.
