Buffalo Bills Get Concerning Keon Coleman Injury Update

The Buffalo Bills prepare to face the Cleveland Browns in their second preseason contest Saturday with several key players expected to sit out, including wide receiver Keon Coleman, who continues dealing with a recent injury.

Joint practices held Thursday with the Browns provided ample work for many of Buffalo’s starters, leading coaches to hold them out of the game at Huntington Bank Field. Injuries have also sidelined some players, with Coleman among those unavailable.

Coleman sustained a sprained foot/toe during the preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers last Saturday. He has been spotted wearing a walking boot since then.

A week later, the boot remained in place. Spectrum News 1’s Andy Young captured an image of Coleman on the sidelines ahead of the Browns matchup, confirming he was still using the protective gear.

The 23-year-old is heading into his third NFL season after the Bills selected him in the second round of the 2024 draft. Through 26 career games, he has put up 960 receiving yards and eight touchdowns, production that has left some wondering about his long-term role.

Coleman showed flashes in the first preseason outing this year. He caught three passes for 17 yards and a touchdown as Buffalo defeated Carolina 29-14. The foot/toe issue now threatens to slow that momentum.

ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe provided an update earlier in the week.

“Bills WR Keon Coleman diagnosed with sprained foot/toe in preseason opener, per source. Coleman, who was seen in walking boot today, to miss practice time but HC Joe Brady indicated he didn’t have much concern It’s been a strong spring/summer for Coleman. He scored a TD Saturday,” Wolfe wrote Tuesday on X.

Injuries have been a recurring theme in Coleman’s short career. In Week 9 of the 2024 season against the Miami Dolphins at Highmark Stadium, he suffered a chipped bone in his wrist and missed the next four games.

Under former head coach Sean McDermott, Coleman also found himself as a healthy scratch for several contests last season, adding to the challenges of establishing consistency.

The Bills parted ways with McDermott in the offseason and brought in Joe Brady as the new head coach. That change could create more opportunities for Coleman if he manages to stay on the field.

Brady made his support clear from the start. At his introductory press conference in January, he addressed Coleman’s place on the roster directly.

“I told Keon when I got hired, the best thing that happened to Keon Coleman was me being his head coach,” Brady said.

“I was one of the ones that stood on the table for Keon Coleman, and I believe in Keon Coleman. He’s going to continue to grow, but the elements that we saw in the draft process — the confidence that I have in him and his ability — and as long as he’s handling what he needs to do off the field, I have no doubt that he’s going to be successful on the field.”

Brady’s endorsement has been one of the brighter notes for Coleman this offseason. The coach’s belief in the young receiver’s potential stands out as the team evaluates its depth at the position.

For now, the focus remains on recovery. Coleman’s absence from the Browns game underscores the caution the Bills are exercising with the injury, even as they look ahead to the regular season.

With training camp and early preseason work behind them, Buffalo will monitor Coleman’s progress closely in the coming days. Staying healthy could prove pivotal as he aims to build on the limited success shown so far in his career.

Fans and observers will watch for any updates on when the wideout might return to practice and, eventually, game action. The support from the new coaching staff offers a foundation, but the sprained foot/toe has introduced an early hurdle in what many view as a critical year for the receiver.
