Byron Young Managing Knee Issue In Rams Training Camp

The Los Angeles Rams reported for training camp earlier this week as they begin their long journey to get back to the Super Bowl.

The Rams have arguably the best team in the league on paper, but in order for them to reach their goals, they will have to keep all of their key players healthy throughout the year. Early in camp though, there is already one injury that popped up as outside linebacker Byron Young revealed he has been managing a right knee issue, per Zach Edwards of TheRams.com:

“I practiced yesterday, but don’t want to do too much to overload our workload,” Young said. “We got a plan to just take some time and get back there in a couple of days. But just day by day, we’re trying to last for 17 games and postseason. … It’s the same knee. It was challenging, but at the same time I trust the training staff. It’s been something I was dealing with for years now and they always came through for me.”

Young didn’t seem to concerned about the issue, and neither did Rams head coach Sean McVay when discussing how the team will manage it in camp:

“It’s no different than Matthew,” McVay said. “We have guys that have accumulated a bunch of snaps, and the goal is, let’s be proactive instead of reactive. So we’ve always looked at him as a guy that kind of fits in that tier one category, similar to what we do with Matthew.”

Young is coming off a career year for the Rams and figures to be a key piece of their defense again in 2026. He had 82 total tackles and 12 sacks in 17 games last season.

Much like the rest of the Rams’ defensive line, Young figures to benefit even more this year from playing alongside Myles Garrett and potentially Aaron Donald. Considering this is a contract year for the 28-year-old, he is hoping to put up big numbers once again to earn a massive payday next offseason if he does not sign an extension beforehand.

In order to show what he is capable of though, Young’s knee will need to be healthy, which is why managing the issue during training camp makes all of the sense in the world.

Rams not concerned about Justin Dedich hand injury

Another injury that was reported early in Rams training camp is a hand issue for backup offensive lineman Justin Dedich. He suffered the injury on the Fourth of July, but the organization is not concerned it will be a long-team issue.
