From LaVell Edwards Stadium to the bright lights of a championship game, the Nacua brothers are writing the next thrilling chapter in their football journey.

Kai and Samson Nacua, both former BYU standouts, are just one win away from hoisting the United Football League (UFL) championship trophy with the Michigan Panthers. After shocking the three-time defending champion Birmingham Stallions last weekend, the Nacuas will take the field in St. Louis this Saturday against the D.C. Defenders in a title game that’s as much about family legacy as it is football glory.

For Cougar fans, the moment is more than just a championship chase, it’s a reminder of what makes BYU football special.

In a season-defining play during the conference final, safety Kai Nacua intercepted a pass and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown, his second pick-six of the season. It was the kind of game-changing moment BYU fans remember well. At BYU, Kai was a ball hawk, recording 14 interceptions and two defensive scores over 38 games. His path since then has taken him through six NFL teams, but his current run with Michigan may be his most electrifying yet.

The veteran safety finished the UFL regular season with 50 tackles, six pass breakups, and two interceptions, cementing himself as one of the league’s top defenders.

While wide receiver Samson Nacua didn’t appear in the Panthers’ conference title win, his presence throughout the season was felt. He hauled in nine catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns, proving his value as a reliable target. Known for his clutch catches and toughness, Samson, who transferred from Utah to BYU in 2021 to play alongside his brother Puka, has continued to grind for opportunities at the next level.

The Nacuas are no strangers to headlines. Their younger brother, Puka Nacua, is gearing up for his third year in the NFL, following an historic rookie season with the Los Angeles Rams, and youngest brother Tei is currently suiting up for BYU. But this week, it’s Kai and Samson’s turn in the spotlight.

As the Michigan Panthers aim to bring a football title back to Detroit for the first time since 1957, the brothers’ journey from Provo to the pros is resonating with BYU fans nationwide. Their resilience, passion, and deep ties to Cougar Nation make this moment personal.

Saturday’s game is more than a championship, it’s a celebration of family, faith, and the path forged in Provo. For Cougar fans, it’s a reason to tune in, cheer loud, and take pride in the Nacuas’ remarkable run.

Because once a Cougar, always a Cougar.
