Caleb Williams Admits Raiders’ Maxx Crosby Is the Best Player He Has Ever Played Against in NFL

What a turnaround it has been for Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears, as they finally have started to show what they can do with some stability around them. This week, he was to face Maxx Crosby and the Las Vegas Raiders.

The game would be at the latter’s home, and they were desperate to win after losing their previous two. Williams knew that Crosby and the Raiders’ D-line would come after him, as they knew they had to stop the QB from having another night like he had a week ago.

The Raiders did their part to stop the Bears from just getting a field goal on the scoreboard. On the next Bears’ drive, they used some short passes to start their drive down the field.

On the 6th play, that momentum came to a grinding halt when the Bears QB, in his attempts to throw the ball down the middle, did not anticipate Maxx Crosby jumping into the path and blocking his throw.

The ball bounced up, and the star pass rusher tracked it down, caught it, and then ran towards the sideline before being pushed out of bounds. After the game, when Caleb Williams was asked about the interception, he replied:

They got a hell of a player over there. He’s probably the best player that I’ve played against so far in my career.

The second-year QB believes the Raiders star is that good with his instincts. He understood what Williams was about to do, and despite being held in a grip by a Raiders’ offensive lineman, still had enough leverage to jump and stop the throw.

Maxx Crosby had a huge impact in close game

In March this year, Maxx Crosby signed a 3-year $106.5 million contract extension, which would make him the NFL’s highest-paid non-quarterback. That mark has since been overtaken quite a few times, but it does not take away from what the Raiders think about him.

Since becoming sober, the 4th round pick has blossomed into becoming one of the most feared edge rushers in the league. His numbers might not place him at the top all the time, but his overall impact in almost every defensive category is why the Raiders paid him so much.

At a time when Jerry Jones felt Micah Parsons, the current highest-paid non-QB in the league, was not good enough in run defense, Crosby’s excellence in that area is why the Raiders need him on every down.

In this game against the Chicago Bears, the Michigan native recorded 5 solo tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 3 pass deflections, and one QB hit. Fans and analysts usually look at the player’s number of sacks to determine their worth, but Crosby is creating his own legacy.

Caleb Williams led the Bears on game-winning drives

When the Chicago Bears decided to select Caleb Williams with their No. 1 overall pick last season, they ensured they would bring in enough personnel to help him reach his potential.

Numerous sacks last season became a major obstacle to his growth, but that seems to have been rectified this time, especially after the way he dismantled the Dallas Cowboys last week.

In this game, Maxx Crosby and the Raiders’ defense stifled him to an interception and two field goals in the 1st half. However, in the 2nd quarter, the USC alum shook his troubles away and led his team to a touchdown in their second half opening drive.

As he dropped back, Crosby and his D-linemen closed in fast on the Bears QB. But Williams pulled the trigger, and with quite some power behind it, just in time to get the ball to fly straight towards the end zone.

His throw was perfectly timed, as fellow draft classmen and wide receiver Rome Odunze left his defender in his tracks and galloped into the end zone to score a touchdown.

Williams also led the Bears on their last drive of the game, using his legs along with his arm to help set up DeAndre Swift for a lead-changing touchdown. Then, thanks to a blocked field goal, the Bears left the field jubilant on winning their second straight game.
