Caleb Williams gives blunt take on Green Bay Packers fans: ‘They suck’

Caleb Williams added fueled to the fire to the longstanding rivalry between the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers earlier this week. The Bears QB1 took a shot at his rival fanbase during his appearance at Fanatics Fest in New York City.

Williams got his first taste of Lambeau Field as a rookie in 2024. He wasn’t impressed by the behavior from some of the fans in the stands during the Bears road game against the Packers in Green Bay last season.

“Probably Green Bay,” Williams said. “I mean, they suck. After the game, after we won at Lambeau — 1-0 at Lambeau — we tried to do the Lambeau Leap, tried to jump into the crowd where our fans were. [Packers fans] just started throwing everything at you, push you off. The Lambeau Leap, it’s a real leap. It’s not a little baby jump, you actually have to high jump, basically. And they’re pushing you, pushing your face.”

Williams couldn’t have expected a warm embrace when jumping into the arms of his rival fanbase. Especially when attempting the team’s tradition after beating their team at home.

The ‘Lambeau Leap’ has been a traditional touchdown celebration for the Packers since the 1990s. The celebrating Packers player(s) make the jump, or leap, from the edge of the grass to the top of the barricade which separates the fans from the frigid grass inside Lambeau Field. The fans usually celebrate alongside the player, often making for a great photo op for photographers in position.

Williams’ lone meeting in Green Bay so far was a 24-22 victory during the regular season finale on Jan. 5. Williams completed 21 of his 29 passing attempts for 148 yards and a touchdown during the contest. He led his Bears down the field with under a minute remaining in regulation after the Packers took the lead on a 55-yard field goal. Chicago kicker Cairo Santos would kick the Bears to victory from 51 yards out as time expired to give them the victory.

Despite the exciting ending to Williams’ rookie season, the Bears would finish the season 5-12 overall. Many expect Williams to be improved heading into year two.

During the 2025 season, the Bears and Packers will meet twice in a three-week span throughout the regular season. Williams will be back in Green Bay on Dec. 7 before the Packers head to Chicago on Dec. 20 to round out the two-game series.
