The Chicago Bears have had a brutal season. They got off to an encouraging 4-2 start, though the wheels have since fallen off. The offense has been disastrous during the team's three-game skid.
Rookie quarterback and reigning No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams has seemingly regressed during the team's losing streak.
The Bears made a sound decision, moving on from offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, though fans might want the organization to move on from head coach Matt Eberflus as well.
“After evaluating our entire operation, I decided that it is in the best interest of our team to move in a different direction with the leadership of our offense. This decision was well-thought-out, one that was conducted deliberately and respectfully. I would like to thank Shane for his efforts and wish him the best moving forward,” Eberflus said.
There was a rumor of Williams being benched, though that wouldn't be a sound move long-term. The former Heisman winner has thrown for 1,785 yards this season, with nine touchdowns and five interceptions.
When a rookie quarterback takes over a team, growing pains will be had. Williams shouldered quite a big load for the Bears, and that's reflected in his performance. While the on-field progression isn't linear, Williams has been an impressive leader.
Following Waldron's firing, Williams reportedly apologized in a team meeting for his issues in the stalling offense for Chicago.
"Bears rookie QB Caleb Williams actually got up in a team meeting after OC Shane Waldron was fired and APOLOGIZED for his part in the offense stalling enough where Waldron was fired. Teammates were very impressed by the accountability and his decision to do that," Jay Glazer reported.

Williams has been a standup guy since arriving at the club, and a change in leadership will help him develop into the franchise quarterback the organization has lacked for years.
The USC product has limitless potential, though it's going to need some help to be realized at the NFL level.
