Calvin Ridley injury update: Titans give troubling news on star WR

The Tennessee Titans are trying to mount a second-half comeback in Sin City. However, they’ll have to do so without their leading receiver.

Tennessee has downgraded WR Calvin Ridley to out for the remainder of their game this afternoon against the Las Vegas Raiders. That’s as he deals with a hamstring injury he suffered in the second quarter.

“Titans WR Calvin Ridley has been downgraded to out due to a hamstring injury,” posted ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Against Vegas, Ridley caught his lone target of the game. It was an 18-yard reception in the second quarter, which remains one of the bigger gains of the day for the Titans’ offense.

On the season, Ridley is the leading pass-catcher for Tennessee, being the top target for their rookie quarterback in QB Cam Ward. He, through five games, has caught 15 passes on 34 targets for 272 yards, averaging 54.4 per game and 18.1 per reception. Most of that came in their last game in Week 5, their lone win of the year against the Arizona Cardinals, where Ridley caught five passes on ten targets for 131 yards, with the yardage being the fifth-most in his career and second-most in his two seasons so far with the Titans.

With his absence, Ward had to spread it around in the passing game today. He has completed passes to ten different players in the corps against the Raiders, finishing being 26-38 (68.4%) for 222 yards, a touchdown, and an interception as he had three turnovers total with two lost fumbles as well. With that, WRs Van Jefferson (4 catches, 75 yards), Elic Ayomanor (3 catches, 27 yards), and Chimere Dike (2 catches, 8 yards) along with TEs Chig Okonkwo (6 catches, 46 yards), Gunnar Helm (2 catches, 15 yards), and David Martin-Robinson (1 catch for 1-yard TD) caught balls for the Titans in what ended as a 20-10 loss to Las Vegas.

Tennessee fell to 1-6 overall, playing a third-straight road game and second consecutive out on the west coast. They’ll now return to Nashville, and hope that Ridley can recover and be available next weekend when they play the New England Patriots.
