Cam Miller or Aidan O’Connell: Who Should The Raiders Give The Ball To?

Given the outcome of the Las Vegas Raiders‘ preseason opener, which quarterback should get the majority of the remaining snaps in these upcoming games?

No one will ever fault Aidan O’Connell for not trying and putting his best efforts out on the field. As the last remnants of Josh McDaniels’ doomed quarterback room, AOC has always stood up when called upon. His victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, highlighted by Jack Jones’ interception return for a touchdown, will live on in Raiders’ lore. However, maybe it’s time to turn the page.

We’ve heard nothing but positive takes out of Henderson during training camp regarding O’Connell. Both offensive coordinator Chip Kelly and head coach Pete Carroll have heaped lots of praise towards the Purdue product. Nevertheless, this might be a classic scenario of “he is, who he is.” A reliable backup when needed though he has little to no mobility and from observing  Thursday’s game, accuracy is still an issue.

While many within Raider Nation are pulling for AOC, it’s evident he’s reached his ceiling and at this point, he might be better served as the team’s third quarterback. Or is that an exaggeration; a product of a underwhelming preseason outing?

Should the Raiders roll with the rookie signal-caller?

Cam Miller, the Raiders’ rookie quarterback, has seen his stock skyrocket after a noteworthy performance on Thursday. After being personally tabbed by minority owner Tom Brady, it appears that the Silver and Black might have something special.

OK, so it was one preseason game, we get it.

However, when Raider Nation witnessed Miller come into the game, everything changed. The leg movement, speed, and athleticism stood out, if for no other reason that AOC doesn’t have any of those intangibles. Miller’s performance is highlighted by a 41-yard dime to Shedrick Jackson; yes, that was Bo Jackson’s kin out there. The effort from Miller didn’t go unnoticed as Carroll spoke about his rookie signal-caller.

“We knew that he would get the chance in the fourth quarter to do this,” said Carroll. “He did a terrific job. I’m so proud of him for hanging in there through all those situations.” The Raiders head coach went on to praise not only Miller but the rest of the receivers as well. “Really, credit to him and the guys that made the catches.”

The question we pose to you is this, did Miller do enough to warrant a bigger chunk of the snaps moving forward? It’s obvious that we all know what the Raiders are getting with O’Connell. Maybe it’s time for the future to take priority.
