This is NFL Draft time's most glaringly outrageous example of the pot calling the kettle ...
"A character.''
As the Shedeur Sanders saga continues to both wind up and un-peel itself, now we have the former NFL star that pretended he was Superman criticizing the Cleveland Browns' rookie quarterback for being - of all things - too arrogant.
Cam Newton, who won NFL MVP in 2015 and produced grandiose touchdown celebrations in which he pretended to reveal a Superman's trademark "S" under his jersey, is these days a league analyst on ESPN's First Take and his own podcast.
Newton does these programs dressed in elaborate costumes, often wardrobed like he's the birth child of Willy Wonka and the Mad Hatter.
And therefore ...
Of all the various opinions of Shedeur's surprising slide, Cam's might be the most shocking.
Instead of embracing a quarterback seemingly cut from the same cocky cloth as he was (and is), Newton believes Shedeur dropped because of his entitled vibe.
"Shedeur, like, first off, I gotta hold him accountable, right?" Newton said on an episode of his podcast. "Travis Hunter is what we would think Shedeur is supposed to be. Travis Hunter is polished like a quarterback. Shedeur has always got this mean mug look on his face. Snobbish-looking, you know what I'm saying? I've met Shedeur multiple times and I'm looking at him and I'm like, 'Okay.'"
Cam even went so far as to poke fun at Shedeur's habit of celebrating big plays by pointing to an expensive watch on his wrist.
Said Newton, "Like, he's always in character like, 'I gotta portray like I'm hard.'"
Again, this is not the advice of Warren Moon, the QB legend who has somberly urged Shedeur to tone it down.
And this is not the advice of Browns QB Joe Flacco, who at age 40 could surely guide Shedeur if the rookie is willing.
This is coming from Cam Newton, who during his ESPN appearances is purposely flamboyant and colorful and kooky ...
You know. "Always in character," one might even say.
