New England Patriots fans probably thought they'd stop hearing about diet plans when Tom Brady left the organization for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason, but apparently, that's not the case.
Cam Newton, who was signed by the Patriots last month, now is discussing the benefits of a vegan diet. The former MVP took on a plant-based diet last year after undergoing shoulder surgery and dealing with a sprained foot. He'll continue his vegan diet in 2020, and he's letting his teammates know that it can be life-changing.
"I've seen such a remarkable change in the way my body responds to the food that I eat," Newton said as part of new vegan campaign for PETA, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.
"I don't want people to think you can't love food being vegan, or there's not good-tasting food that's vegan," he said. "A person may ask, 'How do you get your protein?' ... You get it in the same way that they get it, know what I'm saying? The more cleaner, more fresher way."
Similar to what Brady preached, Newton says choosing what food to consume is a critical life choice. The food we eat powers and nourishes our bodies, and plant-based diets have many benefits.

Newton isn't the first NFL player to team up with PETA, which is an organization that promotes kindness to animals. Tyrann Mathieu, Devin Funchess and Le'Veon Bell also have joined the movement in the past.
