Cam Newton Sends Tyreek Hill Message After Dolphins Exit

Tyreek Hill might not be what he used to be, but the speedy receiver will have his choice of his next destination. The five-time first-team Associated Press All-Pro is coming off a gruesome leg injury, something that might slow him down some.

Cam Newton, the 2015 AP NFL MVP and 2010 Heisman Trophy winner, is interested to see which version of Hill will take the field next season.

“Is he gonna be Cheetah? Or Garfield?” Newton said Wednesday on his podcast. “Because, oh, boy, let me tell you something. The Cheetah when he first arrived in Dade County (was different). … The guy will run past you without even you realizing that he’s passed you. There’s not a lot of people in NFL history — let alone in the NFL right now — that looks like he’s really, really, really, really fast.

“So, yes, that’s the biggest question. What Tyreek are we going to get?”

Newton doesn't think that Hill's recent divorce with the Dolphins had much to do with his off-the-field issues. Newton believes the Kansas City Chiefs should be interested in a reunion with Hill, who starred for them from 2016-21.

“It had nothing to do with off the field, more so than saying that off the field and on the field, it just wasn’t mathing right,” Newton said. “Because if you think that he’s the only person that got off-the-field issues … have you ever heard of an individual by the name of Randy Moss, man? Have you ever heard of the individual (named) Antonio Brown, man? Have you ever heard of the individual by the name of Odell Beckham, man? Terrell Owens, man?

“Man, it’s been known since the beginning of time that that position specifically has some guys that you’re just gonna have to (say), ‘Hey, man, we gotta get them to Sundays. That just comes with the territory.’”

Catching passes from Tua Tagovailoa, Hill led the league with 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdown grabs in 2023. He had 29 catches for 265 yards and a touchdown in four games before suffering an injury this past season.
