Cam Skattebo underwent successful surgery on Sunday night to repair his dislocated ankle. After being released from the hospital on Monday, Skattebo released a statement on social media to update his status.

“Thank you everyone for the support!! Surgery went well,” Skattebo wrote. “I just want to thank the city of Philly for taking the best care of me. Every moment I spent in the hospital with family and friends I felt loved and supported in every way

“Thank you to the doctors, surgeons, and staff that did their best work on me. This is just the beginning of my journey and I can’t wait to show you guys all about it!!! GOD has a plan for me, stick the course and it will all work itself out, BRB.”

Some of the hospitality Skattebo received included Philadelphia Eagles Chief of Security ‘Big Dom’ DiSandro delivered cheesesteaks and pizza to Skattebo at Penn Presbyterian on Monday.

Head coach Brian Daboll also commented on Skattebo’s status on Monday following his tailback’s surgery. All signs point toward him making a full recovery — but it may be a while before the rookie gets there. There’s currently no timeline for his return.

“All went well, he’s recovering, and obviously he’ll be missed,” Daboll said, via Madelyn Burke. “On the road to recovery. … but he’s got a road ahead of him.”

Skattebo suffered the ankle injury early in the second quarter against the Eagles. Attempting to catch a pass from fellow rookie Jaxson Dart, Skattebo’s leg got trapped underneath the Philadelphia defender looking to make the tackle. When Skattebo pulled his leg out, his ankle appeared to be twisted in an unnatural way.

It didn’t take long for the injury cart to take Skattebo off the field. Before they did, Skattebo’s teammates huddled around the cart to send their rookie running back off. Eagles fans on-hand gave him a standing ovation on his away off the field.

Skattebo’s day finished with three rushing attempts for 12 yards. He added one reception for 18 yards as well.

Heading into the matchup, Skattebo had 98 rushing attempts on the season for 398 yards and five touchdowns. His scoring numbers are tied for fifth-most among running backs in the league heading into Week 8.

Next up for New York will be a Week 9 matchup at home against the San Francisco 49ers. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. ET live on CBS.
