New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo saw his promising 2025 season cut short by a devastating ankle injury, bringing an abrupt halt to a breakout year. The fourth‑round pick out of Arizona State quickly became one of the Giants’ most explosive offensive weapons.
Unfortunately for the team, he suffered a dislocated right ankle, accompanied by a fractured fibula and deltoid ligament damage, in the Week 8 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. It was a gruesome injury that required immediate surgery and ultimately ended his season.
Skattebo burst onto the scene with a combination of physical running and receiving ability, finishing his 2025 campaign with 410 rushing yards on 101 carries and five rushing touchdowns, along with 24 receptions for 207 yards and two receiving scores in eight games before being ruled out for the year.
While his rookie season ended prematurely, Skattebo has stayed active and connected amid his recovery process. He has frequently shared glimpses of his rehab journey on social media, posting videos and livestreams showing his workouts, time at the Giants’ facility and interactions with fans despite being sidelined.
On Christmas Day, however, Skattebo provided a new update via his Instagram Stories that raised some eyebrows among supporters.
“Thanks to DR. Mark for coming through clutch on Christmas, woke up feelin crappy and @peakbymd came through to save the day,” Skattebo wrote.
It isn’t clear whether that message referred directly to lingering issues from his ankle injury or another temporary setback, but Skattebo’s post emphasized that he was feeling much better thanks to care from his doctor.
In Skattebo’s absence, the Giants have had to adjust their offensive approach, with running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. and others taking on larger roles in the backfield. New York has battled through a challenging season marked by injuries and inconsistency, but remains focused on building toward future success.
Skattebo is expected to be sidelined for four to six months after his injury, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, and could return in time for the Giants’ offseason program and 2026 training camp if all goes well.
The Giants (2-13) will visit the Las Vegas Raiders (2-13) at 4:05 p.m. ET Sunday on Fox in a game that may determine which team gets the No. 1 pick in the 2026 draft.
