The top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft is already facing criticism, and training camp for his team has just begun. The Tennessee Titans, who went 3-14 last season, selected quarterback Cam Ward out of the University of Miami.
Now, the former Hurricanes signal caller is learning how to navigate media attention on a regular basis. Earlier this week, Ward was asked about Tennessee quarterback Will Levis, who was ruled out for the season due to a shoulder injury. Levis is scheduled to undergo surgery on July 29.
Ward responded without much hesitation.
"I really didn’t have a reaction. I focus on Cam Ward."

That brief comment sparked a wave of backlash online.
"There were rumblings why he’s not getting a lot of attention. He has a chance to show some leadership and fumbled big time based on this sound bite," mentioned this fan.
This fan piled on: "This comes off as super self centered. Can atleast wish Levis well."
Some more backlash here: "Not a good statement from a future team leader. Maybe he will improve."
Another comment reads: "Talking about yourself in the 3rd person is never good."
"Your teammate is out for the year with an injury that requires surgery, how do you feel about that I didn’t really care, Im focused on me (says name in 3rd person) what an absolute trash teammate," this strong statement says.
One more here: "Absolutely no regard for teammates. Just like Zac Wilson. Cam already talks in the first person. Good luck Titans. Helluva teammate."
While the initial sound bite raised eyebrows, the criticism may have gone too far. Ward continued speaking about Levis and clarified his stance.
"He made what’s best for him. I really can’t be mad at somebody for doing what’s best for him. I wish him a speedy recovery."
He added more perspective with a final note of respect.
"I’m hoping to see him in the building a lot more. He helped me in OTAs learning the install and everything. He’s a good football player. When he’s ready and healthy, he’ll have his chance at the field."
At just 23 years old, Ward might have misphrased his initial response, but the reaction he received felt excessive. His relationship with Levis doesn’t seem strained, and if Ward can perform well in a winnable AFC South, fans will quickly forget about one awkward media moment.
