It May Be Time to Start Questioning Cam Ward

The Tennessee Titans have been one of the worst teams in the NFL over the last few years. Ever since firing former Head Coach Mike Vrabel, the Titans have been the face of disappointment. Cam Ward was supposed to change that, however he has only added to that new legacy.

Ward was a highly touted prospect out of the University of Miami. The Titans used the No. 1 overall pick on him in the 2025 draft and thrusted him into the starting spot.

The Titans had extremely high hopes for Ward, going as far as to pass along Warren Moon’s legendary No. 1 jersey to Ward in his rookie presser.

Ward showed flashes of brilliance in his first season but ultimately failed to impress as the Titans finished 3-14 with statistically one of the worst offenses in the NFL.

However, Ward was given a lot of grace because of the situation he was put into. The Titans did not have any established weapons or a great offensive line, often leaving Ward out to the dry. They looked to remedy that in the offseason by drafting wide receiver Carnell Tate and bolstering the o-line.

Despite this the Titans have started the season 0-5, with their most recent loss coming at the hands of the previously winless Houston Texans, 26-3.

While the blame can not solely be put on Ward, he cannot be exempt from it like he was last season. Ward has failed to light the world up in his second year, only having 726 yards and three touchdowns across five games. He sits in the lower half of the league in both stats among starting QBs.

At his current rate he is projected to have an all-around worse season than his already disappointing rookie year. While it may be too soon for the Titans to move on from Ward, questions regarding his play should be on the forefront of the Front Office’s mind.

A possible solution could be simply more time to develop. Bryce Young is a clear example of a QB having ample time to develop in a bad situation. Young looked to be one of the worst No. 1 overall picks at a time, being benched for journeyman Andy Dalton. However, he has started the season off as one of the best QBs in the NFL, solidifying his place in the league.

Ward may have a similar story. Ward is far from the only problem in Tennessee and the team is desperately in need of a full rebuild and new identity. It is just starting to become a question on if Ward will be leading when the change inevitably comes.

Ward’s current rate of play only makes his future look bleaker by the week. If something does not change soon, Ward may quickly fall out of favor and be shipped out for someone different.
