Cam Ward, Jeffery Simmons say Titans had their worst week of practice before loss to Las Vegas Raiders
USA TODAY Sports

LAS VEGAS -- The Tennessee Titans fell to 1-5 on Sunday after a 20-10 loss in Las Vegas to the Raiders (2-4). After the fact, quarterback Cam Ward and defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons said the team had one of its worst practice weeks this year.

That effort, or lack thereof, carried over to the team's latest defeat.

Titans cannot get right under Brian Callahan

What makes losing to Vegas that way so offensive is that it came after Tennessee's lone win of the season.

"It started at practice," Simmons said. "Just being honest, this was probably one of our worst weeks of practice. Came out flat on Thursday. Sometimes things carry over...and in this league, you have to prove it every week. And re-prove it. You have to go out there and keep proving yourself, your team, that you can win in this league. We didn't do that in all three phases. Today was bad football. We didn't play good today at all."

Simmons, individually, did his job on Sunday.

He added his fifth sack of the season with two more quarterback hits. Simmons had two tackles for loss and contributed six more as he continues to have his career-best start to a season wasted on a franchise that can't stop losing. The Titans defense is honestly holding its own out there.

Coach Brian Callahan's offense is the stuff of nightmares and gave the other two phases nothing to work with against the Raiders.

Cam Ward is now becoming a part of the problem

All that bad football around the 2025 No. 1 overall pick is dragging Ward down with it.

"He not lyin'," said Ward of Simmons' commentary. "We came out flat, and its the way we played today. "We just can't let that carry over. We got a good team coming in next week at home. Gotta try and get a win."

Ward finished the game completing 26 of his 38 passing attempts for 222 yards, two fumbles lost, a touchdown and an interception. The lone score came with 3:07 remaining in the game. The Titans were held scoreless for the entire first half and, per John Glennon of the Nashville Post, have only scored one first half touchdown this season through six games.

Whatever is wrong with them is deeply ingrained, but the practice commentary is a terrible look for everyone involved.

Callahan is now 4-19 as the coach in Tennessee. He has contributed his fair share to the team's ghastly streak of being without consecutive regular season wins since Weeks 10 and 11 of the 2022 (!) season. That predates Callahan, of course, and includes a seven game losing streak and a blown divisional lead under then-coach Mike Vrabel.

That seemed like the franchise's lowest point, until the last two seasons.
