There is one player above everyone else that Jackson Powers-Johnson would love to get another crack at.
In Week 6 when the Las Vegas Raiders faced off against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Powers-Johnson drew the difficult assignment of Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward. During the game, Heyward beat Powers-Johnson clean to get a sack on Raiders quarterback Aidan O’Connell, leading to the first sack ever given up by the Oregon product. As Powers-Johnson stated on “The Rush with Maxx Crosby,” the Raiders center admitted that the play served as his “welcome to the NFL” moment.
“He didn’t beat me, I beat myself, I overset. And he got me, and said some choice words after, and I really hope he comes back for another year. That’s all I’m going to say,” Powers-Johnson said about the play to Crosby.
Heyward heard the comments made by Powers-Johnson, and took to his own podcast to provide a scathing response to the young offensive lineman.
“That wasn’t the only time he got beat, I’m going to be honest,” Heyward said in his response. “I’m going to be honest too — this is the other thing — he’s saying this and we don’t even have him scheduled this year. That’s kind of funny.”
“It ain’t going to say that in the stat sheet, my dog. That’s on you.”
While this beef between Powers-Johnson and Heyward is certainly some quality entertainment for the offseason, there is a good chance this one never sees itself play out on a NFL field.
Barring a matchup in the playoffs, the closest the Raiders have the Steelers on their schedule is 2027 in Pittsburgh. Also working against a rematch is Heyward being 36 years old, with his contract expiring after the 2026 season. With those factors, Heyward could very well retire after 2026, denying Powers-Johnson a chance at redemption.
Powers-Johnson has some time to prepare himself against tough competition, waiting for the chance to get some revenge on his Pro Bowl defensive counterpart.
