GLENDALE – The Arizona Cardinals currently sit at 2-4, a position that isn’t unfamiliar for the franchise. Last year, the franchise started its season 2-4, before winning four straight games before going into its bye Week. In 2025, Arizona will have one more game before its bye, but can it recapture the same magic from last season to make a comeback in the playoff race?
Last season, the Cardinals played five eventual playoff teams in the first six weeks. Through the time span this year, the team has faced four opponents with a .500 winning percentage or better in 2025. Despite the name value difference, the level of competition remained the same record-wise.
However, the real difference is from Week 7 and beyond. In 2024, Arizona played five teams with an above .500 record, and this season will play eight in the final 11 weeks. In the three weeks the franchise doesn’t play a team with a winning record, it’ll will be on the road, adding for more hurdles for the team.
When head coach Jonathan Gannon spoke with the media on Monday, he stated that the team is still mentally present and not dejected from the four straight losses. In the past four weeks, the Cardinals have loss by a total of nine points during this rut. A couple of 50-50 balls go the team’s way, and Arizona could viewed as one of the top teams in the NFL.
Regardless, Gannon says the team’s record is its record for a reason and they need to better in every aspect in the game. If the team can get healthy, and get starting quarterback Kyler Murray back under center behind a healthy offensive line, then the team could start to see some signs of life to turn the season around.
Despite the optimism, The injuries, offensive struggles and rough ending to schedule seem to be too much and put the franchise in a really tough position to make a serious push towards the playoffs.
