Can Cowboys Ex Kellen Moore Handle Eagles Distractions?

History might be repeating itself for the Philadelphia Eagles as offensive coordinator Kellen Moore fields head coaching interview requests during the team's playoff preparation.

The Jacksonville Jaguars became the second team to request an interview with Moore, following the New Orleans Saints' inquiry on Monday.

The timing draws concerning parallels to the Eagles' experience following Super Bowl LVII, when both coordinators — Jonathan Gannon and Shane Steichen — departed for head coaching positions immediately after the season concluded. The dual departures forced Philadelphia into a coaching staff rebuild, which may have contributed to the team's dramatic collapse in 2023, where they lost six of their final seven games after starting 10-1.

The collapse ultimately led to the firings of both defensive coordinator Sean Desai and offensive coordinator Brian Johnson after just one season. With Moore and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, the Eagles are working with their third pair of coordinators in as many seasons — a pattern of coaching instability that has plagued the team since their Super Bowl appearance.

While Moore maintains his focus is squarely on the upcoming playoff matchup against the Green Bay Packers, the situation adds another layer of complexity to the Eagles' postseason preparations.

"You don't worry about it too much," said Moore regarding balancing interview requests with playoff duties, something he previously did in his stint as a Dallas Cowboys aide. "Really the focus is on the week and those things take care of their self. Those things only come to teams that tend to have success and doing things well on the field, so that's where your focus is."

Moore's success in his first season as Eagles' offensive coordinator has certainly caught the attention of teams with head coaching vacancies. Under his leadership, Philadelphia's rushing attack has been dominant, with Saquon Barkley setting multiple franchise records en route to the team's 14-win season and NFC East title. However, the passing game has struggled, ranking 29th in the NFL.

The Jaguars' interest in Moore comes as part of a wider coaching search following Doug Pederson's dismissal. Jacksonville has also requested interviews with several other candidates, including Buffalo's Joe Brady, Detroit's Ben Johnson, and Baltimore's Todd Monken.
