Canadian billionaire Steve Apostolopoulos ‘still in hunt’ with Commanders sale

By now, it’s common knowledge that Josh Harris and his group have yet to finalize its non-exclusive agreement to buy the Washington Commanders from Daniel Snyder for an NFL record $6.05 billion. With that said other suitors remain in the fray with the possibility of snagging the sale. That includes Canadian billionaire Steve Apostolopoulos, who reportedly bid $6 billion.

“I’m still in the hunt,” Apostolopoulos said, appearing on CNBC’s Squawk Box Monday morning.

He characterized the process as a “head-to-head” competition with the Harris group. However, Apostolopoulos didn’t provide any further details on the bidding.

“It would be inappropriate for me to comment at this time, as it is a live process,” Apostolopoulos added.

By his understanding, Apostolopoulos confirmed Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was not part of the bidding process. And the “head-to-head” comment seemingly dismisses Brian Davis, who has gotten recent attention with his vow of a $7 billion bid.

It’s unclear how long the process will take before Snyder officially sells the team. One thing that is becoming increasingly evident is the sale won’t occur in time for the NFL owners to vote during the league meetings in Minneapolis next month.

Commanders fans will have to wait a bit longer for Christmas to arrive. The franchise’s fans have long yearned for Snyder to sell the team. Syder has essentially taken a step back from the organization by most accounts. But fans are still eager for his departure to be official.
