Cardinals 1st-round pick due for breakout season says analyst

GLENDALE – Arizona Cardinals 2024 1st-round pick Darius Robinson had a disappointing rookie season. After dealing with injuries during training camp, Robinson didn’t make his debut until Week 12 of last year. His snap count was low to be cautious about his injury history, which led to him only recording one sack and 10 tackles in his rookie season. The former 27th overall pick hasn’t lived up to the hype, but NFL.com writer Bucky Brooks believes Robinson is due for a breakout season in his sophomore campaign.

Brooks on what Robinson can bring to the Cardinals next season:

“Despite an injury-riddled rookie year that limited Robinson to six games, there is a lot to like about the versatile defensive lineman’s potential impact as a second-year pro. The 6-5, 285-pounder flashed “wrecking ball” potential while finding his way in fewer than 200 snaps as a rookie. With better health in Year 2, he should see his production spike while playing alongside a collection of veterans (guys like Josh Sweat, Dalvin Tomlinson and Calais Campbell) who command attention at the line of scrimmage.”

The biggest addition for Robinson might be the signings of Josh Sweat and Calais Campbell, who could help the 23-year-old with his development. Sweat is coming off one of the greatest Super Bowl performance from a defensive player in the last decade and has recorded six-plus sacks in the past five seasons. In his 17-year career, Campbell has only recorded less than five sacks in a season three times.

The duo Pro-Bowl pass rushers will teach and be role model for the young Robinson, who is looking to play his first full healthy season in the league. Robinson is 6’5 and nearly 300 pounds, moving like a player weighing 100 pounds less. He has all the intangibles to be a force for opposing offensive lineman. The improved defensive line could open up a spot for him to face plenty of one-on-one matchups and showcase why he was a first-round pick.
