Arizona Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon told the media on Friday that first-round defensive lineman Darius Robinson suffered a calf injury after going down in practice yesterday.
“Reports that came out that happened in the closed portion of practice, so I’m not real fired up about that guys. The guys that were there, that didn’t report on it, thank you to adhering to our policy. He’s getting imaging today. He’s got a calf (injury),” Gannon said.

Yesterday, Howard Balzer of Cards Wire reported Robinson would undergo imaging today to determine the extent of an undisclosed injury suffered in Thursday’s practice. His colleague, Chuck Harris, added that Robinson was carted off the field.
The Cardinals have already lost a starter on the defensive line in second-year outside linebacker BJ Ojulari, who suffered a torn ACL earlier this offseason, so Robinson would be another big loss if he is go to on injured reserve or miss some time.
On the team’s first official depth chart released earlier this month, Robinson was listed as a backup defensive tackle behind free agent addition Bilal Nichols. This interior defensive line room is pretty deep with Nichols and other free-agent signees Justin Jones and Khyiris Tonga, as well as returnees Roy Lopez, Dante Stills, and L.J. Collier.
However, Robinson was always expected to get major playing time and potentially start by the time the season rolls around because of how well he played in camp depending on what his injury is.
“The dude is a freak,” Collier said on Robinson (via AZCardinals.c0m). “I feel like the kid’s going to ball this year. Arguably might be Defensive Rookie of the Year if he stays on the track that I think he’s going to be on.”
The Cardinals head to Denver to take on the Broncos in their preseason finale this Sunday (Aug. 25) at 1:30 p.m. MST on CBS.
