While there will not be American football being played in the Olympics this year, rugby could give any Arizona Cardinals fan a quick fix before the NFL preseason begins.
One of those who is highly anticipating one of, if not, the biggest events of the year is Cardinals legendary wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald who posted a story on Instagram with the Eiffel Tower in the backdrop.
“Grateful to be in Paris for the Olympics,” Fitzgerald said in the clip.
Since he last played in 2020 before retiring from the NFL, Fitzgerald has been enjoying his life away from the game as he is an avid golfer, likes to travel, goes to Diamondbacks games occasionally and is now at the Olympics.
Wearing a “Team USA” hat in the photo, it is safe to say that the Minnesota native will cheer on his fellow Americans. There are 592 athletes at the Olympics this year and the United States has won 1,179 gold medals all-time.
There are plenty of athletes with Arizona ties that will be in the Olympics including 26 from ASU, 12 from the University of Arizona, two from NAU, two from GCU, Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, Phoenix Mercury’s Kahleah Copper, Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner and nine other athletes that went to high school in the Valley.
