On Wednesday, Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim told reporters that he doesn't yet necessarily have a hard deadline for when wide receiver and future Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald must inform the team on whether or not he intends to play an 18th NFL season.
Arizona head coach Kliff Kingsbury said on Thursday that he thinks the 37-year-old should keep on playing into his 40s and not yet retire.
"It’s been an honor, to come in as a young coach from college and just the way he embraced the coaching and offense and his work ethic," Kingsbury said when speaking with reporters about the man affectionately known as "Larry Legend," per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. "He’s an all-time great, there’s no doubt. One of the best players to ever play the game. And one of the best people I’ve ever been around, just the way he treats our staff, the people in the building, the fans — he’s phenomenal. And I hope he plays five more years."
While Fitzgerald is no longer a Pro Bowler, he recorded 54 receptions for 409 yards and one touchdown last season and showed he can still offer plenty to a contender in need of a reliable set of hands and veteran leadership. He's previously said he only wants to play for the Cardinals.
