GLENDALE — As leadership interviews continue across the NFL, the Arizona Cardinals may be closing in on their next head coach.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Cardinals are “likely to bring in” Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur for a second interview following Championship Sunday. LaFleur has also emerged as the betting favorite to land the head coaching job in Arizona, according to PHNX Cardinals.
The development signals the franchise’s growing focus on offensive continuity and quarterback-centered leadership as it enters its next era.
LaFleur joined the Rams in 2023 after previously serving as an offensive coordinator for the New York Jets from 2021 to 2022. Under his guidance, Los Angeles’ offense rebounded despite injuries, emphasizing balance, adaptability and situational efficiency — traits the Cardinals have lacked in recent seasons.
The Rams’ offensive coordinator not only aligns with the organization’s needs, but could also provide a fresh voice during a clear reset for the franchise.
Arizona is still searching for its identity after attempting to maximize the prime years of quarterback Kyler Murray — whose future in the Valley is unknown. As the organization looks to turn the page, hiring an offensive-minded head coach with experience across multiple systems could offer a long-term vision for sustained success.
After finishing 3-14 this season, many around the league will be watching closely to see how the Cardinals emerge from one of the most challenging stretches in franchise history. LaFleur, with a proven track record and recent success, could be the candidate tasked with leading that turnaround.
