GLENDALE – Arizona Cardinals running back Michael Carter was elevated to the active roster for Thursday Night Football vs. the Seattle Seahawks. Carter only got one carry in the game, but with the injuries to James Conner and Trey Benson not at Monday’s practice, the team has signed him to the 53-man roster.

Cardinals sign Carter to 53-man roster:

Carter arrived in the Valley midseason of 2023 from the New York Jets. The 26-year-old has had a limited role in his time with Arizona, but has showcased some flashy plays in the process. This past preseason, Carter and DeeJay Dallas lost out on the RB4 spot to Bam Knight, and being cut from the 53-man roster.

Despite being cut, Carter was brought back on the practice squad. The team clearly sees something in the young halfback, and with injuries on the roster, Carter was the clear choice to elevate. RB D’Ernest Johnson replaced Carter’s spot on the practice squad.

The new running back room will consist of Benson, Emari Demercado, Carter and Knight for the rest of the season. Knight has been used strictly for kick returns, while Demercado is currently viewed as the third-down back. If Carter can show some life in practice, his reps in the game could increase and grow into that third-down back role.
