Cardinals TE Trey McBride surpasses Travis Kelce and makes NFL history in Week 15 vs. Texans

GLENDALE – Arizona Cardinals Trey McBride was knocking on the door heading into Week 15 vs. the Houston Texans, and he didn’t waste anytime. After his team stalled out in the first two offensive drives for -7 yards, McBride took over in Arizona’s third drive to record five catches for 47 yards, including a two-yard touchdown catch.

That series cemented the Pro Bowler’s name into a league of his own and surpassing future Hall of Famer Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Sunday was McBride’s 16th straight game with 5+ catches, the most in NFL history.

McBride is at 98 receptions and counting, with plenty of games left to make more NFL history. Two more catches makes him the first tight end in NFL history with back-to-back consecutive 100+ catch seasons. If the 26-year-old records 19 more catches, he’ll record the most catches by a tight end in a single season.

At 3-10, with very little to play for, McBride’s superstardom is the saving grace from Cardinals fans and the franchise from completely losing their cool. McBride is having an All-Time season that will likely end with him earning his first All-Pro selection and being the first Arizona player to be named since 2020 Budda Baker.
