Carolina Panthers Prepping For Breakout Season Ahead of Training Camp

We’re in the dead heap of July. Which means only two months until football graces us with its presence. Until then we have to stay in the present and look toward the start of training camp. The Carolina Panthers have been a team most have overlooked throughout the last few years. While they were in rebuild mode, the upcoming season has a different feel to it all. It's been nearly ten years since Carolina has had a winning season. Since the days of Cam Newton and Ron Rivera, the Panthers have looked like a team who has lost its way. That is until the young tandem of Bryce Young and Dave Canales.

The 2024 season left fans with something to be hopeful for. While the record of 5-12 sounds horrific, the results showed real promise. A team that was used to having ugly breakdowns seemed to be gelling and learning how to compliment one another. The continuity will only get better as they’ve added some key pieces to this roster that could allow them to be contenders in the NFC South.

The 'Cardiac Cats' had a hell of a draft, snagging star WR Tetairoa McMillan and addressing the lack of defense in edge rushers Nic Scourton and Princely Umanmielen. The fun doesn’t stop there adding Trevor Etienne to a running back room that was plagued with injuries. Let’s not forget the ones who missed out on most of the season. Jonathan Brooks has been plagued with injuries since he joined the team. The entire secondary missed multiple games including the top corner on the team, Jaycee Horn. The Panthers are also sitting on a gold mine in Jimmy Horn, who has been turning heads since his arrival.

All this new talent is sure to catapult the Panthers out of the pits of their division. Canales and Young are in year two together, which can only help a stagnant offense find its footing. Xavier Leggette looks poised to have a breakout season as he bulks up for the season. Free agent signings DT Tershawn Wharton, S Tre’von Moehrig, and WR Hunter Renfrow can be great assets for a team trying to build a winning culture.

Training camp begins July 21st for rookies with veterans set to report on the 22nd. The camp will not be open to the public due to a construction work at the fields but this allows the team to amp up the anticipation for what is sure to be a distinguished year.
