The Philadelphia Eagles selected Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts with the 53rd overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, but that doesn't mean he'll be replacing Carson Wentz any time soon.
Regardless of that, though, Wentz didn't mind the Eagles selecting a quarterback in the draft. After all, he just wants to win games.
"I came to Philly ever since being drafted and all I've wanted to is win and stand up there and hold that Lombardi Trophy. Whatever that takes and whatever that looks like, I'm on board," Wentz said on a teleconference with reporters Monday, according to ESPN's Tim McManus. "I'm a competitor, I want to be out there, I want to have the ball in my hands -- we all do -- but at the same time, whatever is going to help us win, I'm confident the coaches and everyone is going to put us in the best situation."
Philadelphia showed their commitment to Wentz last year when he signed a four-year, $128 million extension... you don't just get rid of a quarterback after a large extension like that.
Besides, Wentz is 32-24 through four seasons in Philadelphia with a 63.8 completion percentage, 14,191 yards, and 97 touchdowns.
No rookie quarterback is going to come in and immediately gain the trust of the team anyway, so it wouldn't make sense for Hurts to take over.
However, Hurts threw for 3,851 yards, 32 touchdowns, and eight interceptions last season with Oklahoma... impressive, but not impressive enough to poach Wentz's starting position with the Eagles.
At least Wentz is accepting of Philadelphia's decision to draft a QB... Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers seemed rather annoyed about Brian Gutekunst selecting Jordan Love as his replacement instead of adding some legitimate offensive talent that can help immediately.
