CB Patrick Peterson says he's re-signing with Vikings

Veteran cornerback Patrick Peterson may no longer be the force he was when he earned eight consecutive Pro Bowl nods with the Arizona Cardinals but proved during his first season with the Minnesota Vikings he still has plenty to offer both on the field and behind the scenes.

Peterson received interest from multiple other clubs this offseason but, per Courtney Cronin of ESPN, announced on his "All Things Covered" podcast Wednesday he'll be playing under new head coach Kevin O'Connell and defensive coordinator Ed Donatell as a member of the Vikings on a one-year contract.

"I just felt it was right just to be there and grind with those guys and try to all come together for that common goal. The team is stacked," the 31-year-old explained. "Like I always talked about last year, we just didn't put it together in certain situations but we got even better, I believe, this year in the offseason by adding a great offensive mind in Kevin, adding pass rusher (Za'Darius Smith) to help Danielle [Hunter], with Ed coming from his defensive background ... these guys are definitely trying to put the pieces into place and now it's just on us, the coaching staff and the players, to go out and executive and put together the best game plan possible to get some dubs."

Peterson said his agent also spoke with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts and Washington Commanders. Financial details of his new deal were unknown as of early Wednesday evening.

In his first campaign with Minnesota, Peterson recorded 45 total tackles, an interception he returned to the house for a touchdown and five pass breakups across 13 games. According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, Peterson said Wednesday that he expects the Vikings will select a defensive back in the first round of the NFL Draft next month. Four different CBS Sports analysts currently predict the same in their mock drafts.
