CB Terrion Arnold To Meet With Giants

Arnold went through his previously reported Saints visit today, per NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo, and veteran insider Jordan Schultz reports a Giants meeting is on tap for Wednesday. Arnold has already met with the Seahawks and Texans.

The Giants have already done plenty of work at cornerback this offseason. The now-John Harbaugh-run team signed Greg Newsome and used a top-40 pick on Colton Hood. Those two join Paulson Adebo and 2023 first-rounder Deonte Banks as the top perimeter options. Andru Phillips remains the Giants’ slot cornerback, though one of Harbaugh’s Ravens imports (Ar’Darius Washington) may have a chance at that job. Most of Arnold’s NFL snaps have come on the outside; he has played 1,064 boundary snaps compared to 107 in the slot.

Prior to the serious off-field trouble Arnold has found himself in, the 2024 first-rounder started 22 of the 24 games he played with the Lions. Arnold, 23, is coming off an eight-game season shortened by a shoulder injury that required surgery. Having cleared waivers, the Alabama alum is no longer tied to his rookie contract.

Detroit decided to waive Arnold days after the felony charges emerged in connection with the armed robbery attempt. Arnold turned himself in to police in June, and he is confined to his home except for work-related functions such as free agent workouts. Arnold has denied any wrongdoing.

The Giants previously moved on from a first-round cornerback who faced felony armed robbery charges — 2019 draftee DeAndre Baker. The team waived Baker in 2020, following the charges (which were eventually dropped). Though, the Giants are effectively two regimes removed from when they made that decision, having fired GM Dave Gettleman and then stripping power from successor Joe Schoen upon hiring Harbaugh. They are also not alone among teams looking into Arnold, as Schultz points to more interest beyond the four known clubs to have scheduled visits.

Pro Football Focus has ranked Arnold outside the top 95 among qualified corners in each of his two seasons. The Lions look to be carrying a glaring need at the position, but the team cut ties with Arnold anyway. Arnold is set to be arraigned Thursday in Tampa, Fla.
